Great relationships are not automatic, they are built; you can’t sit and do nothing. It requires give and take and that takes effort, time, and energy. It’s important to build and have flourishing relationships and to do that here are four great components that will make it successful:
Authenticity. Be true to yourself, be real. No one wants to be around a fake or a phony.
Vulnerability. You should be able to share anything with a real friend; you should be able to share your weaknesses without judgment.
Credibility. Trust in a relationship is extremely important. Getting someone to trust you take work and time, once broken it can be difficult to repair.
Compatibility. Quite obvious, if you can’t get along with others then how do you build a relationship. If the other three components exist chances are you’ll be compatible with someone.
While these four key factors are important in building relationships, forgiveness is important if you are going to maintain it. With that said, keep the following in mind as well:
- Compliment in public correct in private.
- Correct people when they’re up not when they’re down.
- Never offer correction unless you’re willing to receive it.
At the end of the day a relationship with God is the most important relationship of all.
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
